 | Yixing Pots |
Yixing clay is named after the city near the central east coast of China where the famous purple clay (zisha) is found, and where the art of clay pot-making attained a new level of mastery. Using the special local clay these hand-made wares achieve a unique hardness combined amazingly high heat resistance. More importantly to Gongfu tea making, the clay maintains a porous quality that allows it to be seasoned for a particular type of tea. Over many years of frequent use with a specific tea or style of teas, the pot begins to take on additional taste characteristics that are both mysterious and wonderful.
