 | Traditional Dark Roasted Tie Guan Yin (a.k.a. Lu Ye Hong Bian Bei Kao)
| Season: | Autumn 2009 | | | Origin: | Xiping, Anxi county, Fujian province | |
Our traditional teas offer a taste from much older processing styles closer to the original Tie Guan Yins and other oolongs that were traded early on through to Taiwan and Hong Kong. Many of those styles live on in Taiwanese teas, but have relatively recently changed to far greener styles of tea processing in the Chinese mainland. Certainly both styles are excellent, but in many ways they incomparable, and as unique as any Tie Guan Yin tea is to Long Jing tea.
This variety is a Lu Ye Hong Bian style Tie Guan Yin that has been further roasted at multiple intervals and specific temperatures to give it an added dimension that sets it far apart from many other traditional Tie Guan Yins. While the first scent has a depth and richness reminiscent of coffee, the taste is smooth and gentle with many floral notes leaving hints as to the original green flavours beneath the roasting. A rich treat, smooth and easy on the stomach without the intense fragrances found in more common Tie Guan Yin oolong teas. |
