Long Jing tea is unquestionably the most famous in China, with a history that began 1200 years ago. West Lake Long Jing tea, grown alongside the scenic West Lake near Hangzhou, is the most sought after by many enthusiasts of premium tea; both in China and the West. The tea has a long and mysterious history and was reputed to be a great favourite of Chairman Mao Zedong.
This batch is a first-picking certified 'West Lake pre-Qing Ming' tea from Lion Mountain, which requires it to be produced from the very tender first spring shoots prior to the 5th of April each year (approximately). Pre-Qing Ming Long Jing tea offer a subtler and grassier high-quality finish than mainstream Long Jing tea picked later in the season.
These flat and smooth special-grade tea leaves (resembling light pale green pine needles) brew a tea with an extremely faint light green color, a subtle fragrant scent, and a refreshingly floral taste.
