Long Jing is unquestionably the most famous tea in China, with a history that began 1200 years ago. West Lake Long Jing, grown alongside the scenic West Lake near Hangzhou, being the most sought after by many enthusiasts of premium tea; both in China and the West. The tea has a long and mysterious history and was reputed to be a great favourite of Chairman Mao Zedong.
This batch is a first-picking certified "West Lake pre-Qing Ming" tea from Shi Feng Shan (Lion Mountain), which requires it to be produced from the very tender first spring shoots prior to the 5th of April each year (approximately). Pre-Qing Ming Long Jing teas offer a subtler and grassier high-quality finish than mainstream Long Jings picked later in the season.
These flat and smooth first-grade tea leaves brew a tea with very light green color, a subtle fragrant scent, and a refreshingly floral taste.
